Q: What is The Hit List?
A: The Hit List exists to identify and celebrate the best spec scripts of the year. By focusing exclusively on specs, which are written speculatively, and without pay, the Tracking Board aims to identify and celebrate fresh ideas, new voices, and often some of the best new talent entering Hollywood.

Q: Why is this list different from other end of year lists (Black List, Blood List, Brit List)?
A: The list began in 2010 with an emphasis on recognizing the new voices in Hollywood. Everyone at the Tracking Board are huge fans of The Black List and the Blood List and everything they do, but they felt following back-to-back years where The Black List identified Aaron Sorkin (2009) and Quentin Tarantino (2008) as picks towards the top of their list, there was a void between the newcomers and the established pros that found it difficult to make an end-of-year list and be recognized for their work. So, beginning in 2010, they started utilizing their spec tracking, and at the end of the year, tallied a voting pool to discover who the best spec writers were.
Q: What’s with that cover?
A: Every year the cover is made up of some of their favorite lines of dialogue from the Top 10 scripts. Take a peek and see if you can spot some of their favorites.
Q: Who are some of the writers who have been discovered via The Hit List?
A: In our five-year run we have seen well over a hundred writers and projects appear on The Hit List before any others. Here is just a sampling of those more well known writers: Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), Graham Moore (The Imitation Game), Aaron Berg (Section 6), Elijah Bynum (Hot Summer Nights), Brian Duffield (Your Bridesmaid is a Bitch), Max Landis (Chronicle), David Guggenheim (Safe House), Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman (Draft Day), Dan Dollar (A Boy and His Tiger), Aron Eli Colette (The End), Stephany Folsom (1969: A Space Odyssey or How Kubrick Learned to Stop Worrying and Land on the Moon), Brian & Jim Kehoe (You Complete Us), Wentworth Miller (Stoker), Roberto Bentivegna (The Eel), Declan O’Dwyer (Broken Cove), Justin Kremer (McCarthy), Lauryn Kahn (He’s Fuckin Perfect), Mike Jones (In the Event of a Moon Disaster), Matthew Aldrich (Father Daughter Time), Eric Heisserer (Story of Your Life), Ashleigh Powell (Somacell), Sean Armstrong (Comancheria), Michael Werwie (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil), Aaron Berg (Section 6), Lisa Joy (Reminiscence), Kate Trefry (Pure O), Aaron Kendall (Stranded), Andrew Sodroski (Holland, Michigan), Richard Cordiner (The Shark is Not Working). These are just to name a few.
Congratulations to all the 2014 Hit List writers!
