THE DISCO BALL: StoryCo’s Flagship Story Franchise

StoryCo recently launched their platform with THE DISCO BALL, their first collaborative narrative, created by acclaimed Hollywood Showrunner Kyle Killen (Halo, Awake, and Lone Star), with original illustrations from legendary LA-based pop artists shelby and sandy. The cast includes household names like Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Encanto), Costa Ronin (The Americans, Homeland), Lionel Boyce (The Bear), and Teddy Sears (The Flash, Masters of Sex). 

This cast and crew of Hollywood stalwarts are setting the table for YOU to “build on top” of the core story with your own creative contributions while earning a financial stake in the underlying IP in the process. 

Co/Create and Profit Points: A New Era of Storytelling Collaboration

StoryCo’s Co/Create initiative offers a pathway for artists, writers, animators, and musicians to directly influence the stories created on the StoryCo platform, like THE DISCO BALL. Designed to be inclusive, each Co/Create is designed to take you under an hour from scanning the guidelines through the entirety of the creative process to submission, and with a degree of difficulty to accommodate novice and seasoned creators, alike. 

The goal of Co/Create is to unlock the creative potential of people from around the world, and StoryCo has already fielded some incredible submissions from a wide-range of creative talents, such as: 

Each Co/Create submitter vies for the chance to earn industry-scale monetary compensation and “Profit Points” directly in line with their creative contributions. Profit Points represent a claim to a percentage of the profit generated by the underlying IP and are awarded for meaningful contributions to the story universes, serving as StoryCo’s pledge to share in the upside success of the stories published on their platform with their global creator community. 

StoryCo recently launched its first fully co-created “Story Branch” (an offshoot of the core narrative that explores different characters or events within the universe) which serves as a testament of what collaborative storytelling on their platform can achieve.

This particular backstory, set amidst supporting character Marcus Rhoder’s days as an Aerospace Engineering student at Stanford, combined talents of screenwriter Michael Lewen, illustrator Ron Ackins, actor Lauren Neal, along with a moving performance from Lionel Boyce (the voice of Marcus).

Future backstories and story branches can take on an infinite array of creative mediums, formats and genres, whether it's a live-action short film, an AI-generated animated dream sequence, or a multi-chapter comic dedicated to unfolding the layers of a compelling side character. The possibilities are truly endless, allowing creators to explore every facet of a story universe’s rich narrative world.
