Why did you decide to enter Big Break with all the other contests out there?
There are dozens of contests so I researched with colleagues and online to see which ones were respected. Big Break came up every time.
What advice would you give to someone considering entering their scripts in contests?
I would say do it. Make sure you’re satisfied with your work and then send it in. The more assessment you receive, the better you’ll understand where you’re at with your writing and what you need to do to improve it.
What advice do you have for contest-winning writers to take the most advantage of that success?
Get the word out there that your script won something and submit it. An award-winning script that no one is reading isn’t doing you much good.
What's the biggest mistake writers make when entering contests?
Not proofreading – this is an opportunity for your writing to be seen in the best possible light, so at least make sure you’ve put the time in.
