Last year, some of Script's contributors participated in DePaul School of Cinematic Arts’ annual Courier 12 Screenwriting Conference and were blown away by the event! We're excited to announce this year's conference will take place on Saturday October 8th at their Loop Campus.

Here's our Script panel from last year, Jeanne Veillette Bowerman, Rebecca Norris, Tawnya Bhattacharya, and Doug Richardson, talking about surviving as artists in a business that's so hard to break into, offering their stories and tips on how to navigate the industry and stay sane. Stay tuned for our links to other sessions with Tom Schulman (Dead Poet's Society) and Howard Rodman (WGA President).

What's happening at this year's Courier 12?

If you loved last year, this year won't disappoint!

Courier 12 presents a series of panel discussions with the top writing talent in the entertainment industry. All panels take place in the lower level theater of 247 S. State Street (The Daley Building) from 1:00-6:30 P.M. Admission is FREE and open to the public, but seats are limited.

1:00 P.M. The conference kicks off with a panel on project development featuring Brian Banks, VP and Executive in Charge of Production at Nickelodeon (The Thundermans), and Samantha Olsson Shear, Head of Development for Feature Film and Television at Kickstart (Preacher). DePaul professor Chris Parrish will moderate.

2:30 P.M. DePaul professor Anna Maria Hozian will host our next panel focusing on strategies for emerging writers, featuring Blacklist success-story Stephany Folsom (Thor: Ragnarok), Marc Manus of Zero Gravity Management, and Zach Cannon (Castle, Notorious).

4:00 P.M. DePaul professor Brad Riddell will discuss writing for television and Hollywood’s diversity issues with writer/producer/director Aaron Rahsaan Thomas (The Get Down, Friday Night Lights) and screenwriter and Boston University Professor Kam Miller (Law and Order: SVU), who just published a TV-writing craft book, The Hero Succeeds.

5:30 P.M. Our final panel features two screenwriters whose films are some of the most iconic blockbusters in Hollywood history. Jack Epps Jr. is Chair of the Writing for Film and Television Program at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. His many feature credits include Top Gun, Anaconda, and Secret of My Success. Steven E. de Souza is known for classics such as Die Hard, 48 Hrs., and Commando. His films have grossed over $2 billion dollars at the box office. DePaul professor and Blacklist blogger Scott Myers will lead this discussion.
