Screenwriting Website of the Week: The Bitch Pack

Script Magazine announces The Bitch Pack as the Website of the Week — creators of The Bitch List! Let The Bitch Pack help you create stronger female characters.

Script Magazine is proud to announce The Bitch Pack as the Screenwriting Website of the Week!

So, who is The Bitch Pack? I'll let their About page speak for itself:

We’re a collective of creatives and film & media students (current + past), men and women who believe that there should be more screenplays produced into films (reel life) that reflect how women talk, in real life.

We started a media literacy campaign called The Bitch List, aka The Bechdel List. We’ve reached out to The Blood ListThe Black List and The Hit List and are inspired by their work to feature quality writing and content in the entertainment areas in which they concentrate.

We focus on Bechdel Test passing screenplays and dialogue between women. Since film is the world’s largest medium, we know film can change society’s perceptions and people’s lives.

As screenwriters, we need to be diligent in writing characters to attract A-List actors, both male and female. But many female characters are, quite frankly, boring.

If you don't believe us, then check out this passionate rant on Twitter by @MysteryExec as a plea to writers to up their game, stop being lazy, and bring him better female characters.

One way to determine whether your script has strong female characters is to use The Bechdel Test rating:

1. It has to have at least two [named] women in it.
2. Who talk to each other.
3. About something besides a man.

Simple right? But you'd be surprised as to how many scripts fail the test.

But the scripts on The Bitch List are an exception. The Bitch List 2014 is a list of the most-liked un-produced Bechdel-Wallace Test passing screenplays of the last 12 months.
