In the world of DIY filmmaking, Chris Sparling is used to having command over every facet of his work -- for better or for worse. However, letting go of his his original screenplay, Buried, was the beginning of a fortuitous journey. The story of an American contractor in Iraq, the spec was shopped by Sparling’s managers at Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and his agents at UTA. The spec ultimately landed with producer Peter Safran of the Safran Company and is currently in production in Barcelona, Spain, with actor Ryan Reynolds and director Rodrigo Cortes. Although Chris has been writing for many years, Buried represents his first break into the Hollywood system. [12:33]
